North Carolina Traditional Archery Championship

Since 1998, the Carolina Traditional Archers along with Catawba Valley Wildlife Club have hosted the North Carolina Traditional Archery Championship.  (NCTAC). This 3 day event is held each year during the Memorial Day weekend and attracts archers from all across the southeast.  It includes a total of 40 targets divided among three ranges featuring a variety of eastern, western, and exotic game animal targets, traditional vendors, novelty shoots, free camping, home cooked meals, restrooms and hot showers.  Trophies are awarded for men, women and youth in longbow, recurve and primitive classes.

Camping

  • Free primitive camping as long as there is at least one registered shooter in the campsite; otherwise campsite fee is $40 for the weekend.
  • Hot showers and flush toilets along with Port a Jons are conveniently located within the camping area. No electrical hookups or dump stations.
  • Campers are allowed.
  • Catawba Valley Wildlife Club has elected to prepare meals on Saturday only. Only lunch and dinner will be served.  CTA is currently seeking food vendors for the weekend and will post information as it is available.  Participants should plan accordingly.

Registration

  • All persons entering the facility must be registered, sign a waiver, and possess an event pass.  No Exceptions. This includes visitors and vendors.
  • No fees charged for visitors and vendors.
  • New For 2011 : Fees and event wavier signatures will be obtained at the entrance of the facility. Only those participants wishing to compete in the championship will report to the clubhouse to complete a registration and obtain a scorecard.


Vendors

  • Vendors may enter the facility beginning on Thursday May 26, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Friday May 27, 2011.
  • No charge for vendors, but an appropriate gift for our raffle is greatly appreciated.
  • No electrical hookups
  • Due to limited space, no vehicles or campers in the vendor area. Designated parking for event staff and vendors will be made available adjacent to the vendor area.
  • Vendors must register, sign a waiver and possess an event pass. 
  • No arrow shooting, knife or ax throwing in the vendor area.
  • Vendor spaces are available on a first come first serve basis and cannot be reserved.

Shoot Fees

  • $25.00 Individual
  • $40.00 Family, This includes spouse and children less than 19 years of age living in the household. Spouse and children must be present at the time of registration to receive their event pass.

  • Adult, longbow, recurve, primitive, Ultimate Traditional Archer
  • Youth, age  12-16, longbow, recurve
  • Cub, age 8-11, longbow, recurve
  • Chipmunk, age 7 and under, recurve, longbow

Posting of Scores

Posting of scores will occur after 3:00pm on Sunday May 29, 2011.
Scores will be posted on CTA website by the following week.


Novelty Shoots

Toughman Shoot

Tough Man Shoot: The Toughman shoot consist of ten 3D targets set in all natural surroundings. The shots are set to be "tough" and "challenging". It will test the skill of the archer and provide some laughs or groans on each shot. Challenge yourself and have some fun.

Bust A Skeet

Bust a Skeet:  Test your skill at exploding clay pigeons – and maybe even with a few bucks!  Cost only a dollar-a-round to play, and the archer who shatters the most splits the pot with the house.

Kids Range

2D Kid Range: For kids 7 and under; this range will let the young archer shoot a course just like mom and dad. No charge and open all weekend.

Aerial Competition

Aerial Targets: Come test your skills at aerial targets. No fee or competition.

Kids Events

Kid’s Event/Shoot:  A variety of activities designed for the youngsters. Free and held Saturday afternoon.

Coon Shoot

Coon Shoot:  This 10 target course offered both Friday and Saturday nights will challenge the most skilled instinctive archer. Targets are set in a realistic setting and adding to the realism is the baying of coon dogs. Participants will be limited to one 2 cell flashlight (furnished) to illuminate the target. A $5.00 fee is charge for this event and adult and youth trophies are awarded.

Due to the tremendous generosity of our vendors, club members, and regional clubs we have a large and varied number of items available for raffle.  Tickets will be available for purchase all weekend long.
